Your call: Should Twitter say goodbye to its 140-character limit?
A recently-published Re/Code report has revealed that popular microblogging service Twitter is planning to launch a new product which will enable users to post tweets with more than 140 characters.

The social network is weighing whether to scrap its 140-character limit on tweets – a basic stricture that has increasingly divided users and investors alike as the company searches for growth.
The company’s executives are also discussing changes to how the 140-character limit is measured, such as excluding links and user handles from the count, citing people familiar with the matter. This unique feature of Twitter started a few innovative ways on how people express themselves through social media.
Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Apparently, Dorsey is supportive of this possible change, simply implying that he is doing his best in his position while Twitter is now searching for its permanent CEO. “Having Jack come in and say it’s okay makes all the difference in the world”.
CEO Dorsey wants to reach a more mainstream audience.
Twitter is desperate to find new ways to attract users to the product. Tweaking the character count or allowing for longer tweets is a good way to do this. It might encourage publishers to share directly to Twitter more often, but long-form publishing on other platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn is typically more of a power feature.
