Your Call: Would the Zika Virus Keep You from South Florida?
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 1,825 cases of Zika virus have been reported in the United States, including 18 in Kentucky.

So far no mosquitoes in Miami or elsewhere in Florida have tested positive for Zika.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Tom Frieden arrives at the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County.
Zika infection often displays no or mild symptoms. He didn’t give details about the nature of that small area.
Mosquitoes that can carry the Zika virus has been found in 12 California counties, but the California Department of Public Health has no evidence that these mosquitoes are transmitting the Zika virus in the state. A total of 23 infections have been confirmed in pregnant women.
Earlier this week, Frieden told reporters he was concerned that boots-on-the-ground mosquito control had not been as effective as expected-possibly because of insecticide resistance. Florida now reports six locally-acquired cases.
“The Aedes aegypti mosquito does not travel more than 150 meters in its lifetime, and often quite a bit less than that”, Frieden said.
In California, the CDPH is monitoring pregnant women carrying the Zika virus and will monitor infants born to Zika-infected mothers for one year. Investigators from the Florida State Department of Health have been going door to door to test residents in the affected area to see if the virus is still being spread from infected mosquitoes. The CDC has reported 14 cases of sexually transmitted infections. Partners of pregnant women are advised to use a condom to guard against sexual transmission during pregnancy. However, more information about the women or the babies were not released by the officials. Here’s what you need to know about the virus.

Gov. Scott also announced that the state was shaving 10 blocks off the northwest corner of the area where there is suspected mosquito-born Zika transmission in Wynwood and Midtown.
