Five years on from the moment Nicolas Cage had a crack at the character of Johnny Blaze, Marvel has introduced its new take on the infamous Ghost Rider ahead of his imminent appearance in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has long loved to play with contrasts, and it will be interesting to see how the show balances Robbie’s life with the vicious instincts of Ghost Rider.

While Blaze was a veteran motorcycle stunt rider cursed with demonic powers as part of a pact with the devil, Robbie is a Latino high school student who scraping by in a rough Los Angeles neighborhood when he is gunned down during a street race and reborn as a new Ghost Rider.

Every fan was begging for new on-screen material, though, many hoped for a Netflix show with the rest of Marvel’s TV line-up.

It appears as if Ghost Rider has borrowed Blade’s ’69 Dodge Charger, but aside from that, the character’s exactly what you’d expect.

Ghost Rider, Marvel’s fire-covered, bat-out-of-hell character, is no stranger to live-action. The narration also mentions that “when the rider burns you, he burns your soul”.

It hasn’t enjoyed the huge success of its cinematic cousins, but Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. has done well enough to warrant a fourth season.

“Agents of SHIELD” Season 4 premiers Tuesday, September 20th in its new timeslot of 10:00 PM ET.

Rather than breaking the bank trying to make Ghost Rider’s transformation believable, they might want to keep that stunning CGI to a minimum and hone in on the superpowers and supernatural elements that are easier to achieve.
