The arrest was in connection with a case registered in Kochi, for allegedly radicalising a Kochi-based woman.
According to the report, he was produced before magistrate’s court in the Central Business District of Belapur, Navi Mumbai, on Thursday and remanded in transit custody for four days. Khan, however, was not linked with the IRF, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kulkarni of the Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad. Officials in the security establishment stated that the arrested accused, along with two other organizations apart from the IRF, were working to carry out conversions on a very large scale. The move comes a day after the Maharashtra ATS along with the Kerala police picked up Arshad Qureshi who allegedly belongs to the IRF.
“As per the statement, Qureshi insisted that Ebin should embrace Islam and join IS”. Kulkarni said the arrest was recorded by the Kerala police and the ATS was giving the team logistical support. The case registered by the Kerala Police in connection with the disappearance of 21 youths who are suspected to have fled the state and joined ISIS.
He is expected to be handed over to the Kerala ATS soon.
