Yesterday the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) said it wanted the party to hold an early elective conference because its current leadership was entangled in hard issues.
It said an early conference was needed in order for the ANC to “regenerate” itself.
The ANCYL reiterated the mother body’s stance of “collective responsibility” on the outcome of the elections, but said the situation could have been avoided if ANC had delivered on its promised and resolved policy positions in issues such as free higher education and the scraping of e-tolls.
“There is a need for the ANC to redesign its leadership electoral system to disallow heavy contests that divide the organisation”.
The ANCYL and ANC Women’s League have openly called for a woman to succeed Zuma as ANC president next year.
It took aim at the party’s secretary-general Gwede Mantashe‚ calling on him to resign instead of him pushing for others to resign. We can’t ignore the sign that says actThe ANC is talking. but government is not implementing.
The youth league also said it supported Jacob Zuma and that Zuma alone can not take the blame for the ANC’s performance in the municipal elections.
“The culprits who manipulated the process must be dealt with thoroughly, especially in Gauteng”, Nzuza said. They must be expelled, they do not respect the organisation, they misled the organisation, they are selfish. He said 66% of the country´s population was made up of young people.
The ANC is expected to hold its next elective conference in December next year‚ where it will elect President Jacob Zuma’s successor. “This overhaul must start from the bottom right to the highest office dealing with the lists”.

“We would like to categorically put it clear that attributing the poor performance to a single person is opportunistic and lacks honesty”.
