YouTube star Gigi Gorgeous went through “one of the scariest moments” of her life when she was detained at the airport in Dubai for being transgender.

“After being detained and held at the Dubai airport for over 5 hours, this was the moment my baby came to rescue me”, Gigi wrote alongside a picture hugging her friend Nats Getty.
“I was told you are transgender. You can not come into the country”, this is what the immigration officers at the airport in Dubai told the YouTube star.
The 24 year old model, who was previously known as Gregory Lazzarato, changed her passport to “Gigi Loren” after she transitioned. They claimed that Gigi’s passport identified her as male and that the photo in the passport showed her as a man. Gigi, however, argued that it was not true.
The “imitation of women by men” is illegal in Dubai and can be punished by up to a year in jail, according to CelebrityInsider.

Gigi denied the assertion by airport police and said Dubai authorities still had her passport and she was trying to leave the country. She said that the information in her current passport was already updated. She admitted that she was a transgender in December 2013. Presently, her YouTube channel has nearly 290 million views and over 2.3 million subscribers. They expressed their disappointment at the discrimination Gigi faced.
