After years spent running around the development beach, it appears that Baywatch might finally be getting its moment in the movie Sunday.

The new Baywatch movie will see Zac Efron playing a young lifeguard who does not really take well to following the rules, while Dwayne Johnson is a veteran lifeguard who takes his job very seriously.

These talks mark another leap in the 28-year-old’s career, evolving from Disney teen idol to respected professional actor.

In the meantime, Efron certainly is keeping his schedule full, having just wrapped up filming Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates with co-stars Adam Devine and Anna Kendrick. Though production hasn’t started, this casting announcement certainly ups the film’s hype.

The film – which is predicted to be similar to the recent reboot of the Jump Street films – was described by Johnson on Twitter as “big, fun and RATED R”.

The TV series ran from 1989 to 2001 and starred David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, among others.

Efron’s character is constantly looking and working on that one track that will change his life, but in the mean time, he’s spinning at parties and fielding requests for Beyonce tunes.

And if Efron and Johnson’s previous outings are anything to go by, fans will not be disappointed! Johnson will also produce the pic along with his partner Dany Garcia through their Seven Bucks Productions banner.
