Zack Greinke signs mega-deal with Arizona Diamondbacks
They probably aren’t going to be seen this upcoming year, but they aren’t likely to be pitching in Sacramento three or four years from now either. And only by about $50 million.

The Dodgers as it stands hold the 24th, 30th and 36th picks of the 2016 draft (this will change often throughout the season with various signings), and would prefer not to surrender their first-round pick in signing a free agent if they can avoid it. He is, after all, 32 years old.
Will the Dodgers miss the playoffs next year?
Greinke’s decision looked especially wise Tuesday, when David Price agreed to a seven-year, $217 million contract with the Boston Red Sox. Seemed logical to them.
A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that free agent ace Zack Greinke and the Arizona Diamondbacks have reached agreement on a six-year contract. He spent six years at the Orange County Register, and began his career at the Oakland Tribune, where he started an 11-year journey covering Major League Baseball. If you were making a guess, you’d say, “probably”, but it would be no more than a guess.
So the practical Dodgers – the presumed richest team in baseball – were outbid by a team that plays in the middle of the desert, where the average summer temperature is like 138 degrees. Hey, it could have been worse. The Dodgers and San Francisco Giants were considered favorites to sign the veteran.
“He is our priority – our No. 1 priority in the off-season”, Johnson said.
The Diamondbacks, on Friday, debuted their new uniforms.
Kershaw could be burdened more than ever, as there are several uncertainties behind him. Suddenly, things just got a whole lot noisier for the quiet Diamondbacks. I keep thinking if I write that enough it will truly sink in.
Despite a market flush with high-end starting pitchers, perhaps the greatest collection of arms to hit free agency at the same time, the Giants again must lower their sights and concentrate on the next level to fill the holes in their rotation. Price is two years younger than Greinke.
Los Angeles is said to have made an offer to Greinke of $155 million over five years, per Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
So maybe, when we get to Nashville, Cueto will sign with the Phillies and Jason Heyward with the Brewers and we’ll find more reason to be surprised.
“We made a very strong offer to retain Zack Greinke but clearly he found a deal that fit better for him and his family”, Friedman’s statement read. How can they replace someone like Greinke? Certainly not since Guggenheim took over and started throwing money around.

Greinke is coming off the best season of his career. Their payroll last season was $85 million. In the Jetstream of those deals came Greinke, and what was believed to be a contest of wills (and dollars) between the Dodgers, the wealthiest franchise in the sport, and the Giants, three-time World Series champion this decade.
