Zack Greinke to sign $206.5 million deal with Arizona Diamondbacks
A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that free agent Greinke and the Arizona Diamondbacks have reached agreement on a six-year contract.

In addition to his effectiveness, Greinke’s value is in his dependability, which is why some teams were more willing to overlook his age when there were younger starters – Price is 30, Zimmermann is 29, Cueto is 29, Samardzija is 30, Yovani Gallardo is 29 – on the market. The individual spoke on condition of anonymity since the signing has not still been finalized.
Greinke opted out of the remaining three years of his contract in November that he signed with the Dodgers in the winter of 2012.
Zack Grienke will sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to multiple reports.
According to several reports, Greinke has accepted a six year, $206 million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
“We made a very strong offer to retain Zack but clearly he found a deal that fit better for him and his family”, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said in a statement on Friday. The Diamondbacks finished 13 games behind the Dodgers and five behind the Giants last season. Fine and good. John Lackey to the Cubs, as reported Friday night: Yep, makes sense. If this doesn’t end up being the most stunning upset of the offseason, then we can’t wait to see what is. The club believes in Robbie Ray (3.52 ERA in 127 2/3 innings), but it needed an alpha male.
From the front office to the clubhouse, the Dodgers badly wanted Zack Greinke back in 2016.
The Dodgers had hoped Greinke and Kershaw, plus a roster that added up to the highest payroll in baseball, could lead them to their first World Series crown since 1988.

The San Francisco Giants were the Dodgers’ top rival for Greinke until the Diamondbacks jumped in with a serious bid late in the week. But Batman just lost Robin, and while Kershaw remains the best pitcher in the game, he’s just one human being able to take the ball 33 to 35 times a season. He posted a 2.77 ERA in 33 starts for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2015 and has an 8-5 postseason record. It also topped the $31 million that Price received per year from Boston. The Giants, who’d built those titles on pitching, desired a 1B to Madison Bumgarner’s 1A, face a possible career downturn of Matt Cain and the free agency (and career downturn) of Tim Lincecum.
