Zack Snyder explains why Grant Gustin was never considered for the role

“I do not think Gustin is the right one”. There are tons of moody images of Batman and Superman from their upcoming battle royale, but do you know how hard it was to find an image of Grant Gustin’s Flash looking anywhere outside the range from mildly confused to happy for the purposes of this post?

Snyder continues in what seems an attempt – or an excuse- to calm the masses (sorry, Zack; not working) by stating Grant Gustin’s Flash is part of the overall DC multiverse.

Fans of the CW series The Flash were undoubtedly shocked when it was announced that The Perks of Being a Wallflower star Ezra Miller would portray Barry Allen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as well as the next few movies of the DC Extended Universe.

One of the main reasons is the great difference in the tone of the hit series from the tone that he intends the film to have.

In a new interview with the New York Daily News, Snyder explained his decision to not bring Gustin’s popular version of Barry Allen to the big screen, admitting “I just don’t think it was a good fit”.

I’m very strict with this universe and I just don’t see a version where…that (tone is) not our world, he continued. There have been indications that the DCEU won’t be an entirely dreary affair, like Suicide Squad’s humor, and both The Flash movie and Shazam are said to be lighter in tone, but evidently Gustin’s Flash was too cheery for the big screen world.

While CW’s “The Flash” is lighthearted and tends towards comedy, Snyder’s DC Universe tends towards to be darker and more dramatic.

Fans weren’t thrilled with the change, with many wondering why Snyder chose not to build on an already committed fanbase. Zack Snyder, the director says that he never considered Grant Gustin to resume his film role as the character he plays on TV is not the world he wants to implement.
