Cecafa champions Uganda battled to a 2-2 draw with Mali in their opening Group D tie at the African Nations Championships at Gisenyi’s Umuganda stadium on Tuesday.
There were genuine concerns about the lack of pace and grit on the part of FC Platinum’s Gerald Takwara in the first game and with the Malians having pace apart from being physically stronger, Pasuwa wants to use more ball players.
Injured captain Uganda Miya was replaced by Muzamiru Mutyaba at the beginning of the second-half.
Miya has impressed for Uganda in recent months in World Cup qualifying and at the regional Cecafa tournament.
Sekou Koita leveled matters for Mali after 24 minutes with a well taken ground shot that rested at the corner of the goal.
Five minutes before half time, Uganda were rewarded a penalty after Ssekisambu was fouled in the box.
On their part, Zimbabwe without any point from two games are out of this year’s edition of the Africa Nations Championship.
Although Zambia had more possession, Zimbabwe spurned a chance to equalise.
And Zambia’s experience told in the end, with Chansa and Katongo combining to strike the decisive blow.
He said a good showing from them at CHAN – the tournament for locally-based players – could revive their global careers.
