Zika carrying mosquitoes resistant to chemicals — CDC
The Clark County, Ind., health department is reporting that a Sellersburg resident has tested positive for the Zika virus.

The health department emphasized that it still believes the only place with ongoing Zika infection is a square-mile area in northern Miami.
In Tallahassee, Florida Gov. Rick Scott also called on the federal government to send additional funding to the state to combat Zika virus.
One person in OR has contracted the virus through sexual transmission. “This is not just going to impact Florida”.
The California Department of Public Health confirmed Thursday the births of two babies with microcephaly due to being infected in the womb with the Zika virus.
“We are prioritizing the use of those [CDC] dollars before we begin spending large amounts of state general revenue”, Revell said.
County health departments must provide free testing, and lab services have to process test results quickly. Counties have been receiving funds in monthly installments since about May.
Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes have also been reported in Otero County and Aedes albopictus in Curry County in past years.
The head of the CDC is warning that the mosquitoes that carry the virus are proving resistant to chemicals that are used to control them.
As of Wednesday, the state also had 336 confirmed travel-related cases of Zika virus, meaning patients were exposed to the illness while traveling outside of the country. This local transmission is much more likely in the parishes around Lake Pontchartrain than other areas of the state. County and state officials have been meeting to review needs, and Hudak said, “It’s all evolving”.

“We have the funds that we need”, Gimenez said Friday, “but we’d like to get reimbursed for whatever it is that we’re doing. We do have a pretty good tool box and we rotate regularly as part of our resistance management program, but there aren’t a lot of new things coming on the market that target mosquito control because it’s such a small industry”, said Montgomery.
