In February, President Obama requested $1.9 billion in nationwide funding to fight Zika.

They also heighten concerns over Zika’s spread in the continental United States.

A plane sprays pesticide over parts of the city of Miami in the hope of controlling the number of mosquitos, some of which may be able to spread the Zika virus, on August 12. They also told them to consider postponing travel anywhere in Miami-Dade County. Containment there will be hard because high-rise buildings and strong winds make it impractical to spray the neighborhood from the air, officials said Friday.

“Just like when we learned of transmission in Wynwood, the county has already begun an aggressive mosquito eradication plan that includes additional spraying in Miami Beach”, Scott said.

The agency says it is working closely with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control to provide Canadians with the most up-to-date information possible regarding the virus.

Dr. Tom Frieden says planes can’t fly low enough among Miami Beach’s high-rises to spray pesticides that kill mosquitoes and their larvae. This announcement made the popular vacation destination the second location in Florida to receive a travel advisory in an effort to contain the spread of the disease.

Gov. Rick Scott held a press conference Friday morning, saying the state is testing thousands of patients.
