The Zika virus is not a huge cause for concern for most healthy adults.

Dr. Susan Weinstein, public health veterinarian at the Arkansas Department of Health, said Lucey took a global approach to the Zika virus, adding that the virus in Brazil and elsewhere is cause for concern.

Zika doesn’t usually make people sick enough to need hospitalization, and death from the disease is rare, so many may not realize they’ve been infected. Symptoms – which might include a fever, a rash, joint and muscle pain, headache, and red eyes – are generally mild and some won’t even know they’ve been infected. The United States now counts 800 cases of the virus in 40 different states within its borders as well as USA territories, including in 89 pregnant women.

Speaking to the Globe And Mail, Patrick says 635 people from B.C. have been tested for Zika virus in recent months, with the seven positive cases amounting to about one per cent of the people tested.

The New York Times reports that the Zika virus outbreak is being taken seriously in the Big Apple, particularly the risk that pregnant mothers and unborn babies face in the event of infection.

The virus has been linked to microencephaly – a condition where babies are born with abnormally small heads and brain damage – in children born to women infected with the virus, and also with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a nervous system disorder.

Tweel, who serves as chair of the Gloucester Mosquito Control Commission, said that members of the Aedes species can’t be readily controlled through the widespread spraying of large areas of land. The RI State Health Laboratories are now developing the capacity to test for Zika virus in accordance with CDC protocols. The favela sits directly adjacent to the Olympic Park (TOP) amidst fears that the Zika virus will affect the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in August.

The Zika virus was first recorded as an epidemic in Brazil. A way to prevent the Zika virus would be just how you would want to prevent getting a mosquito bite.

These are not the first maps to look at where Zika might spread, but they’re the most detailed global predictions yet, the team said.

According to the VDH website, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention determined last week that the Zika virus is a cause of microcephaly and other severe fatal brain defects.
