Cuomo said Thursday there have been 49 cases of the Zika virus in NY as he announced a plan to find and kill the mosquitos while helping New Yorkers prevent being infected.

The first case of the Zika virus in CT has been confirmed by state health officials, the Department of Public Health said Friday.
Some major US cities, including New York City and Los Angeles, could face outbreaks of the Zika virus this summer, scientists say.
As President Barack Obama made history in Cuba on Sunday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a new travel warning over the rapidly spreading Zika virus, which recently broached the shores of the island nation. One in five people infected will develop symptoms like a rash, fever, headache and red eyes.
The Department of Health confirmed Wednesday there are four new cases.
The Ministry of Health said the baby was born at the main hospital in the capital Praia on March 14 to a woman who was not among more than 100 women being monitored for the mosquito-borne virus.
To produce it, Visual Science, which specializes in creating scientific visualizations of micro and nanoscopic objects, says it employed the same structural bioinformatics techniques that drug firms are using to devise treatments for the virus. It was introduced into Brazil previous year and spread explosively across Latin America and the Caribbean, with more than 20 countries now facing pandemics.
The state is already offering free Zika virus tests to pregnant women who have traveled to affected areas or have sexual partners who have. Most people fully recover from GBS, but some have permanent damage. “In case the Philippines is included by such alert announcement, this is based on the infection case involving a USA national”, he said.

He said Zika is now a foreseeable crisis that won’t take the U.S.by surprise. Of the 2,212 cases that have been investigated so far, for example, 1,349 cases have turned out to be infants with normal cranial development, not microcephaly. Thousands of cases have been diagnosed in endemic countries, leading public health officials in Brazil and several other Latin American countries to ask women to avoid pregnancy.
