Pregnant women in general, including those who develop symptoms of Zika infection, should see their healthcare provider for close monitoring. It has been associated with a birth defect called microcephaly, which causes babies to be born with a small head and under-developed brain.
“I also intern at my local hospital at home, and they have been receiving lots of questions about the Zika virus from women expecting”.
The World Health Organisation has declared the Zika virus outbreak in South America an global emergency. The virus was found in their placentas, according to a CDC spokesman, the Washington Post reported.
Taylor said the department was making the case public to highlight the potential risk to pregnant women thinking of travelling to countries where the virus is active. “They should protect themselves from mosquito bites and postpone their travels”, said Mary Travis Bassett, the city’s health commissioner.

Fauci said he hopes to have safe trial on a Zika vaccine late this summer and have the vaccine ready by the end of 2017 if the virus begin moving at “rocket speed”.
