Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbara elected to bowl in the series decider on a surface that has remained dry for the most part of the three-match series. It took a similarly responsible century from Craig Ervine for the home side to clinch a win, against a new Test side. New Zealand scoring 230 odd runs without losing a single wicket does not speak good about the Zimbabwean bowlers.
Their struggles were compounded in the second ODI were the bowlers failed to take even a solitary wicket. No replacement has been sought from New Zealand.
“They played well towards the end of the innings but I think it showed what sort of wicket it was”.
Guptill set two personal milestones with his knock, including being the 10th New Zealander to score 4000 ODI runs.
