The two have struck up an excellent bond off the pitch, personified most evidently by their hilarious post-match interview together following Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Southampton.

“For me a relationship between a player and a coach has to be between a player and a coach”, he said.

Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola renewing their fierce rivalry is one of the headline battles but Ibrahimovic also has previous with the new City boss, describing him as “a spineless coward” in his autobiography after spending a season under him at Barcelona. We just wait for the game now. And then there’s Ibrahimovic.

“Zlatan added:”He’s a victor, I see myself as a victor also”.

“Both teams now feel like they are competing for the league”.

“With Ibrahimovic coming in, people are saying he’s a great player over the years, which he has been at times”.

“[Pogba] was here a few years ago, he knows the Premier League, what it is all about, he knows the club, and that has helped; he has adapted and settled extremely quickly”, he said.

Since joining on a free in the summer, Ibrahimovic has scored four goals in his opening four games with United. Stones has the potential to be a top player but he’s inexperienced and is going up against someone who has been there, done it and got the t-shirt.

“The new signings and a new manager have given us a leap in quality”, he adds.

‘I don’t know. I think the team is very strong. We’re a very well-organised team, the manager is a victor and he transmits that very well. “It can seem like he’s not there and then he goes and scores the decisive goal”.
