Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s pair of goals helped make Paul Pogba’s return to Manchester United a successful one as the club defeated Southampton 2-0 on Friday night.

United took the lead after 36 minutes as Ibrahimovic was well-placed in the centre of the box to head home Wayne Rooney’s pinpoint cross for his third goal of the season. “It was interesting seeing that when Thierry asked him about his qualities and he doesn’t actually know his best qualities”, Giggs told Sky Sports. “Everything is new, it’s like a big parcel – we need to put the parcel together and then we’ll work through everything”. “We need to get used to winning, because the mental part is also important”.

“If the team does good the individual does good always”.

Mourinho was happy with his team’s performance but said the scoreline could have been more dominant after Zlatan Ibrahimovic headed the opener and then sealed the points with a penalty.

Paul Pogba played full 90 minutes of Manchester United’s Premier League game vs Southampton. Sometimes you need players to fill in for you but I don’t see why he can’t do that.

This is certainly surprising news in the grand scheme of things, with Fellaini having been one of United’s most consistently unimpressive performers over the last few seasons.

Saints boss Claude Puel was in taciturn mood after the match and was guarded in his views on the game’s key passage. Mourinho’s other signing this summer – has also looked accomplished in the United defence during his early weeks at the club. He’s learning how to play with us. I think he’s a fantastic player, no doubt about it.

“He’s very good in the air but he’s very good with his feet”, said Mourinho.

Meanwhile, Liverpool crashed to an embarrassing 2-0 defeat at Burnley on Saturday, while Manchester City crushed Stoke City 4-1 to extend Pep Guardiola’s ideal start in the Premier League.

But all in all, Pogba enjoyed a hugely encouraging start to the second part of his United career, with the midfielder only bound to get better once his fitness further improves and he gets used to his new team-mates.

Despite playing in a midfield holding role, Pogba got forward well, making a total of four attempts at goal, and Mourinho said that he was determined to give the 23-year-old the freedom to play his natural game.
