It was an emotional night at Comic-Con on Wednesday, as the cast of “Star Trek Beyond” gathered on the red carpet without co-star Anton Yelchin. “There’s no re-casting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better”.
“Star Trek Beyond” premieres this Friday in theaters.
“Anton Yelchin should be here”, Abrams continued. The upcoming film will feature a posthumous performance from the actor, who died in an accident on June 19 at the age of 27. With a fourth film in the franchise already greenlit, the question has been raised as to how the movie will handle Yelchin’s Star Trek character, Chekov, on screen.
Star Trek Beyond sees the crew of the USS Enterprise separated following an attack lead by the the dictator Diana Krall (Elba) that leaves them stranded in a hostile, mysterious world. Does the passing of Leonard Nimoy make Zachary Quinto’s portrayal of Spock somehow inappropriate? “It’s beyond devastating, so I just want people to see him tonight and be happy that he has been immortalized in some way”.
Earlier this week Zoe Saldana appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert where she also described the young actor as ‘irreplaceable’.
“We already knew this would be a bitter-sweet experience because of the loss of Leonard [Nimoy] a year ago, but this has just been absolutely devastating for all of us”. “I would say, by the end of his life, it was only one of many facets of how we connected and how we came to respect and love each other”.

“I intend to celebrate him.to get through that sadness”, Cho tells The Post.
