Dave Hollis, the studio’s executive vice president of distribution, said the late release was aimed at taking advantage of the upcoming Easter holidays and school spring breaks over the next few weeks.

The film follows the story of rookie rabbit cop Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) as she teams up with con artist red fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) as they try to rescue the missing Mr. Otterton and uncover a conspiracy plaguing the city of Zootopia.

Disney’s new animation “Zootopia” has topped North American box office in its debut weekend, pulling in around 74 million USA dollars. Zootopia also tops the likes of The Incredibles ($70 million, 2004) and Finding Nemo ($70 million, 2003) on opening weekend cash haul, but compared with ticket prices from ten years ago Zootopia’s total sales can’t compete.

According to the St. Cloud Times, though he’s worked on a number of headlining Disney flicks – like Frozen and Big Hero 6 – Zootopia is his first credit as a “full-fledged animator”. Rotten Tomatoes, a film review website, gave it a near-perfect 98 percent. The sequel to the 2013 Morgan Freeman-Gerard Butler movie “Olympus Has Fallen” pulled in an estimated $21.7 million in ticket sales, meeting analyst expectations of $20 million to $25 million.

“Deadpool” continued its strong showing after almost a month in theaters, placing third at the box office. The movie has been directed by Babak Najafi.

Falling from the second spot to fifth, Gods of Egypt, which also stars Butler, took $5 million in its second week. The movie has now grossed $72 million.
