The 8-6-2 Winnipeg Jets, coming off a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Wild, are in Dallas to take on the Stars on Thursday night in the second game of a four-game road trip.
Devan Dubnyk said he was comfortable in goal against an overtime power play.
Minnesota was also without top-four defenseman Marco Scandella (personal matter) in the last contest against Winnipeg and he is questionable for Carolina. “That’s something you might see once in a while”. Off a feed from Suter that ignited a rush, Zucker fired a wrist shot from the circle that beat Ward far side.
“I would think I would have to look in the mirror if I was a player and I’d have to say, ‘Was I mature in my approach?” “It’s a character win for sure”.
Dubnyk stopped 37 shots, while Carolina’s Cam Ward saved 18.
First, South St. Paul’s Justin Faulk scored five seconds into the game’s first power play, giving him a six power-play goals in Carolina’s first 16 games. “I don’t care how it gets done”.
The Wild (10-3-2) withstood an overtime power play for Carolina, which was 3-0 in previous overtime games this season, before the winning goal.
The officials step in to break up a scuffle between the Canes Ron Hainsey (65) and Justin Faulk (27) and the Wild’s Mikko Koivu (9) and Nino Niederreiter (22) during the third period.
“Offensively, we were just going for it”, Suter said. “We were playing into what they want to do”.
“We’ve just gotta keep with it”.
The Wild, 7-1 at home, opened a four-game road trip Thursday night that continues to Dallas, Pittsburgh and Boston.
Thomas Vanek scored the other Minnesota goal.
Vanek’s team-leading seventh goal knotted the game with 10:19 left in the second period.
Then came the finesse score by Vanek, who faked a shot from the left wing and lifted his stick over Postma in one slick motion to snag the puck and snap it past Pavelec. But (Dubnyk) came up big for us.
But Hurricanes coach Bill Peters challenged the call, and after video review with the Toronto Situation Room and fellow ref Jean Hebert, Morton decided defenseman Matt Dumba pushed McClement into Dubnyk.
“I still don’t agree with it”, Dubnyk said.
The Wild is 3-0 without Parise and is now 13-12-1 without him in the Parise era. With an assist on the play, left winger Joakim Nordstrom also was awarded his first point as a member of the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes won the draw and quickly worked the puck to Faulk.
Carolina peppered Minnesota goalie Devan Dubnyk with 19 shots, while Cam Ward faced only five during the opening period.
Despite losing 5-3 on Tuesday, the Jets are 2-1-0 this season in games in which eight or more combined goals have been scored.
Zucker was terrific yet again and now has 11 points in the past 10 games.
Carolina dropped to 2-5 in home games.
“We’ve talked about it a million times”, Peters said. “Pivotal points. We understand what’s at stake”. He had three points in 12 games in his first National Hockey League stint…. RW Kurtis Gabriel was sent back to Iowa by the Wild. Minnesota recalled C Christoph Bertschy and D Gustav Olofsson from Iowa on an emergency basis, though Olofsson was scratched….
The Carolina Hurricanes had a good, strong start Thursday against the Minnesota Wild at PNC Arena.

The Wild will need to recall a forward for Saturday’s game.
