In a Facebook post on Zuckerberg’s page, the couple wrote: “We are committed to doing our small part to help create this world for all children”.

It will initially focus on personalised learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has become a father for the first time.

“By being public, they’re calling out their support of the non-profit sector, they’re calling out their support to say to others that you should be thinking of social good”, Meredith said. The Facebook CEO’s wife, Priscilla Chan, gave birth to a seven-pound baby girl on Tuesday at around 4 p.m. EST.

The couple’s letter to their daughter focused on advancing human potential and promoting equality. The sentiment echoes Gates, who has said he feels he owes a responsibility to society to give back the wealth he’s acquired.

“We believe all lives have equal value, and that includes the many more people who will live in future generations than live today”.

Chan and Zuckerberg expounded on the initiative in a video posted before the birth of their child. He also posted a photo of himself, his wife and their new daughter, Maxima, nicknamed Max, along with the post entitled ‘A letter to our daughter’.

The 31-year-old social media mogul is one of the wealthiest men in the world. The donations will take place over their lifetime, and the exact worth of the shares will likely change. They’ve also given $75 million to the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where Chan did her medical training. Zuckerberg is taking two months of paternity leave.
