Zuckerberg mocked over ‘booster seat’ at hearing
The European Union on Wednesday thanked Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg for highlighting the bloc’s tough new data protection rules after he said the social media giant planned to follow them during grilling by USA lawmakers.

In a series of questions on how people can remove data from Facebook, Zuckerberg said the company does “collect data on people who are not signed up for Facebook, for security purposes”. “We have to make sure people aren’t using it to harm people or spread disinformation”, Zuckerberg told the Senators.
Republican 8th District Congressman Richard Hudson brought up Diamond and Silk during his time to question Zuckerberg.
Cambridge Analytica insists it deleted the harvested data as soon as it was informed it breached Facebook’s terms of use.
Zuckerberg is still unsure if there are more apps like Cambridge Analytica’s tracking and recording user data, but said it would take months for a complete audit of apps that might be engaging in “improper gathering of data”.
“If Facebook is truly committed to protecting people’s privacy, the company should set an example, by adhering to highest data protection standards for all users”.
In response to many questions, Zuckerberg deferred answers to his team back at Facebook.
“We have not seen wild changes in behavior with people saying I’m not going to share any data with Facebook anymore”, Everson said at The Wall Street Journal CEO Council, the newspaper reports.
Sputnik: Zuckerberg’s talking about the fact that we shouldn’t overregulate social media and other tech companies.
On terrorism, Mark Zuckerberg said: “Terrorist content propaganda has no place in” Facebook’s network.
But he stiffly defended Facebook’s business model – specifically the way it uses data and postings from the 2.2 billion users of its free platform – calling it necessary to attract ad revenue the $480 billion company depends on.
Even companies as large as Facebook with all of their resources and technical expertise can’t keep control of the data. Yet, when asked if his data had been improperly shared with Cambridge Analytica, he replied: “Yes”.
In contrast to the relatively gentle first Senate hearing on Tuesday, House lawmakers were more pointed with their questions on Wednesday, with several of them interrupting Zuckerberg when they felt he was giving evasive answers.
According to Facebook, publishers are going to be suppressed much harder than individuals, but there’s an easy solution: post our content directly to your own page.
However, he rejected suggestions from Congress members that Facebook users did not have enough control over their data.
“I’ve just seen it over and over again – that we have the hearings, and nothing happens”, he said. And youre directing people who dont have a Facebook page to sign up for Facebook in order to get their data.
While none of these entrepreneurs’ companies directly compete with Facebook, they all want that next big data idea because by 2025, the average internet user will connect with a device once every 18 seconds – upwards of eight times more per day than they do now.
