NY is 4-1 in their last five road games, 7-1 in their last eight games following a loss, and 12-3 in their last 15 after scoring two runs or less in their previous game while the Mariners are 7-1 in their last eight against a righty, 12-4 in their last 16 overall, and 20-8 in their last 28 home games. NY rookie Gary Sanchez belted two homers on Monday after being named AL Player of the Week earlier in the day for batting.524 with four shots last week.

NY took a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning on a two-run shot by Sanchez, his eighth homer of the season and sixth in the last seven games, and Castro’s second solo homer, his 17th. His three-run shot, which came off Yankees reliever Anthony Swarzak, gave Seattle a 6-5 lead. Diaz walked the first batter on four pitches, gave up a one-out single and was called for a balk to put runners on second and third base but eventually worked his way out of it. Yankees pinch hitter Mark Teixeira flew out to short left field for the second out, then Brett Gardner grounded out to second to end the game. Sanchez also had a single in four at-bats to raise his average to.385 and threw out a runner trying to steal second. All of the game’s runs came via the long ball. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs to bring his batting average up to.385 in the 17 games he’s played since getting recalled on August 3. Seager got the green light on a 3-0 pitch and hit his 24th homer over the center-field wall. “They’re hard to come by off of him (Pineda)”.

Seattle right fielder Shawn O’Malley, a defensive replacement to start the seventh inning, made the most impressive defensive play of the game when he dove into the right-field stands for a fly ball in foul territory and made an improbable catch. “He throws another guy out”.

NY had won eight consecutive games at Safeco Field since June 8, 2013, tied for the longest winning streak by any visiting team.

The loss snapped a streak of eight straight Yankees wins at Safeco since June 8, 2013. Seattle placed RHP Drew Storen (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled OF Guillermo Heredia from Triple-A Tacoma.3. Storen was 2-0 with a 4.35 ERA in 10 appearances with Seattle after being acquired from Toronto on July 26. He is 2-6 with 6.78 ERA in his last 10 starts.
